EFFECTS OF POOR SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ON GROUNDWATER: A CASE STUDY OF DAMATURU, NORTHEAST NIGERIA

Groundwater quality monitoring is very important in cities and towns where there were poor solid waste management. In this study, the effects of on groundwater Damaturu Metropolis along Potiskum road was investigated using both electrical resistivity survey hydro-chemical methods. The results study showed that at dump sites generate leachate which percolate into subsurface to pollute groundwater. Two aquifers delineated area ERT first aquifer contaminated. contaminants characterized by low distinguished them from their host rocks. are highly conductive indicate they inorganic possibly metallic origin. analyzed water samples revealed heavy metals such as Cadmium, Arsenic, Iron, Chromium, Lead elevated concentration area. semi-confined its proximity earth surface made it much vulnerably pollution. second confined a thick sandy-clay formation protects pollution contaminant plumes.
